Philosophy
To craft leather goods that earn their place in a lifetime wardrobe — pieces finished by hand in London, built to age with character rather than date with fashion.
We believe leather should be selected for its grain, cut for longevity, and finished with the patience of a craft that cannot be rushed. Thirty percent of every hide delivery is rejected. What remains is worthy of our name.

The Process
Five stages. Forty hours. One uncompromising standard — repeated in our Shoreditch atelier every day.
01Each hide is inspected by hand. We reject nearly a third — selecting only full-grain leather with the grain, suppleness, and character our pieces demand.
02Patterns are laid against the natural grain. Our cutters work around imperfections rather than forcing uniformity — every panel is considered.
03Two needles, one thread, punched by hand. A saddle-stitched seam holds for decades — slower than a machine, but incomparably stronger.
04Edges are bevelled, burnished, and painted in multiple coats. The finish should feel smooth under the thumb — a detail felt more than seen.
05Every piece passes through a final review under natural light. Only then does it receive our stamp and leave the atelier.
Inside the Atelier
Machines assist where they must. Hands decide where it matters. These are the moments that define every ILHAN piece.
Before a blade touches leather, our cutters study the hide for hours — mapping grain direction, noting natural marks, and deciding which panels deserve the finest sections.

Saddle-stitching demands two needles and unbroken concentration. Our artisans complete a seven-year apprenticeship before stitching an exterior seam unsupervised.

Edge paint is applied in thin layers, dried, and polished between coats. The result is a smooth, sealed edge that protects the leather for decades.

Craftsmanship
Every ILHAN jacket passes through our Shoreditch atelier for cutting, saddle-stitching, edge-painting, and final inspection. Structural seams are finished by hand. Hardware is antique-finished in-house. A single shearling aviator requires forty hours or more.
Responsibility
We do not perform sustainability. We make fewer things, better — from hides we can trace to pieces we repair for life. Restraint is our most honest environmental choice.
Presentation
Every ILHAN piece arrives in a rigid presentation box lined with unbleached cotton, wrapped in tissue, and accompanied by a leather care card handwritten at our atelier. It is the beginning of ownership — considered, unhurried, worthy of the craft within.

Materials
We source exclusively from Leather Working Group certified tanneries — vegetable-tanned hides from Tuscany, butter-soft lambskin from Yorkshire.
Oak and chestnut bark tanning over forty days produces leather with depth of colour and a capacity for patina that chrome tanning cannot replicate.
For gloves and lighter jackets, we select lambskin measured in fractions of a millimetre — supple enough for a second-skin fit.
Brass and palladium fittings, antique-finished by hand. Hardware that ages gracefully alongside the leather it serves.
Our Journey
2012
ILHAN begins in a modest Shoreditch workshop with a single cutting table, three artisans, and an uncompromising belief in hand-finished leather.
2016
Our signature bomber debuts — forty hours of craft in every jacket, establishing ILHAN as a name synonymous with quiet luxury.
2019
We formalise our relationship with certified vegetable-tanning tanneries in Tuscany, ensuring traceability from pasture to atelier.
2023
Unworn items may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We also offer complimentary lifetime repairs on all ILHAN pieces — because craftsmanship is a commitment, not a claim.
